Harrison Lono “Beanie” Heen Scholarship

Two $1,000 Scholarships to be awarded.

The purpose of the Harrison Lono “Beanie” Heen scholarship fund is to provide financial support towards higher educational pursuits for Kailua Canoe Club paddlers who exemplify the club principles of A.L.O.H.A.

Awardees to be announced at the King Kamehameha Regatta in Kailua on June 9, 2013.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Candidates must be current dues paying paddling members or scholarship paddling members of Kailua Canoe Club
  • Candidates must be enrolled in either of the following:
    1. An accredited university or college – private and public;
    2. Vocational schools – including culinary, technical and trade schools; and
    3. An accredited private professional school, e.g. non-university-associated law and medical schools
  • Candidates must have demonstrated the values of the club as represented by A.L.O.H.A

L  Lokahi—Unity, expressed with harmony
O  Oluolu—Agreeability, expressed with pleasantness
H  Haahaa—Humility, expressed with modesty
A  Ahonui—Patience expressed with perseverance

  • Candidates must submit either a coach’s letter of recommendation or your own exposition on how you exhibit and utilize these values


Deadline to Apply

Applications must be received by May 31, 2013 for consideration.


    1. Download and fill out the application completely
    2. Attach your exposition or a coach’s recommendation, and
    3. Turn in at the paddling site to Coach David Heen, email it to David Heen, or mail to
