President's Message
Aloha paddlers and welcome to Kailua Canoe Club. The Board of Directors have been working very hard preparing for the 2010 season with many sun-filled activities! Our 400+ members make KCC one of the biggest and most successful clubs in the State. We are again, very fortunate to have Kathy Erwin as Head Coach, who has developed a talented staff of returning and new coaches. Recently, our board and coaches attended KCC's 2nd annual retreat to lead us and help improve our operations throughout the year. A special mahalo to facilitator Jim Hollyer for his time and expertise.
This year, KCC’s Board is very excited to be sponsoring our First Annual KCC Golf Tournament. Dan Mahoney has taken on this task and with his committee, promises a fun, action packed day of golf. Any hole-in-one will take a car home from Mike McKenna! The golf tourney is a fundraiser to purchase an updated racing canoe in this very competitive field.
Mike Willett has been our equipment chair for many years; his expertise is the reason we have the best equipment in the State. Please help to care for our equipment by not dragging them on the sand, do not sit on the canoes or step over them while they are on shore. Our koa canoes, racing fiberglass canoes and especially our training canoes are the heart and soul of Kailua Canoe Club. Please consider volunteering with maintenance and fundraising or donate to help support this treasured equipment.
In addition to the equipment fund, KCC has a keiki scholarship program so that every child who wants to paddle can. I urge you to make a donation to support our keiki, and/or our equipment. Any contribution and donation will be greatly appreciated and is tax deductible. KCC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
It is so important that each paddler contributes to the heart of our club by sharing your special skills and interests with the many, many tasks that it takes to make KCC so successful. At registration, Tracy Kane will have the club’s Laulima List so you can sign up and share your talents. Many hands will make our tasks much easier.
Kailua Canoe Club sends a very warm mahalo a nui loa to all who have supported the club with their generous contributions in the past. We appreciate the coaches, paddlers, board members, committee chairs, committee members and volunteers who give so much of their time to make our great club even greater. Kailua Canoe Club’s success could not be accomplished without all your support. On behalf of Kailua Canoe Club, we thank the following who have supported and given so generously

In 1971, KCC was the vision of two coaches and about 50 paddlers who had been paddling with the Kailua Hawaiian Civil Club (KHCC). Those two paddlers were Jimmy Marciel and Cliff Ornellas. This tight-knit group of paddlers purchased the koa canoe "Kalanakila" (Victorious) from KHCC, bought a canoe trailer and a fiberglass training canoe affectionately called the "water wiggle". Cliff and Jimmy researched and adopted the petroglyph paddleman (our club logo), chose blue and gold as our club colors and Kailua Canoe Club was founded.
