About Kailua Canoe Club
Kailua Canoe Club established in 1971, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to perpetuating the sport of Hawaiian outrigger canoe racing. Our halau (clubhouse) is located on the shores of Kailua Beach, is surrounded by the Ko`olau range and is one of Hawaii’s most beautiful settings. Located on the windward side of Oahu, Kailua Canoe Club uses the gifts of the Kailua Bay and Kalapawai Stream to hone and perfect club training.
As a member of the OHCRA, KCC participates in all regattas and long distance programs. KCC promotes the health and happiness of its family and invites all ages to join from keiki (children) to kupuna (seniors) and welcomes new and returning members during club registration.
This site was created to provide helpful information about our club and its offerings, but “true learnings” will come in the canoe, and on the water.
Join us and find out more.

Location
The KCC Halau is located in Kailua Beach Park across the street from Buzz’s

In 1971, KCC was the vision of two coaches and about 50 paddlers who had been paddling with the Kailua Hawaiian Civil Club (KHCC). Those two paddlers were Jimmy Marciel and Cliff Ornellas. This tight-knit group of paddlers purchased the koa canoe "Kalanakila" (Victorious) from KHCC, bought a canoe trailer and a fiberglass training canoe affectionately called the "water wiggle". Cliff and Jimmy researched and adopted the petroglyph paddleman (our club logo), chose blue and gold as our club colors and Kailua Canoe Club was founded.
